有人問 Dean's Letter 要怎麼準備

在準備Match 時需要有很多文件來替自己加分, Dean's letter/ MSPE 是其中一個, 他是用來評估學生在學校的時候的整體表現, Dean's Letter 或是MSPE 有什麼差別呢?

Dean's Letter: 我就翻校長的信, 不過到底是校長還是醫學院系主任, 我也傻傻的分不清楚. 不過這是以一個校長的口吻來敘述這個學生的在校表現..請看sample

 MSPE(Medical student performance evaluation):因為校長的信裡校長對每一個學生都讚賞有加, 因此很多PROGRAM抱怨沒辦法真正分出學生在校的高低表現, 因此從2007 年開始Dean's Letter 就被改成 MSPE, 他有一個固定的格式必須以圖表的方式標出學生每一科的表現和跟班上其他同學相比, 內容複雜很多

我在班上的排名並不好, 再加上我不知道我們學校會不會協助 提供班上其他同學的表現, 我就寫信給ECFMG的ERAS support(eras-support@ECFMG.org)問可不可以用dean's letter 取代MSPE, 我一個小時內就收到回信了...下面是我得到的回覆

You may submit a Dean’s Letter instead of an MSPE for your ERAS application. We understand that many medical schools do not provide an MSPE at this time, and so we can process the Dean’s Letter in place of the MSPE.The Dean’s Letter may come from either you or directly from the medical school – it completely depends on what is most convenient for you and your application.

We realize the time and investment you have made in your pursuit of a U.S. residency training position. We are well aware of industries seeking to assist you with the ERAS application process for a fee. As your designated dean’s office, ERAS Support Services at ECFMG is here to assist you with the ERAS application process. Please do not hesitate to contact us with further inquiries.

最後一段真是寫的揪甘心, 結論就是兩種都可以, 於是我就衝Dean's Letter 了

我的做法是先上網看一下Dean's Letter 的example, 上我們學校的英文網站看我們學校對課程的描述, 還有先要到自己的成績單, 然後自己先擬好稿 (沒錯, 怎麼可以期待校長幫我寫落落長的英文信呢?), 寫好了在去我們學校找校長簽, 校長人很好很爽快就簽了




Dean's Letter: 用學校的Letterhead, 最好用藍筆簽名,以及最好蓋學校的印章, 可以自己寄, 並要附上 DSF,至於MSPE詳細請見 http://www.ecfmg.org/eras/mspe.htm
最好在10月1號前寄到ECFMG,因為11月1號ECFMG就會把MSPE/Dean letter 送到program手上, 有的program 是要求一定要看到dean's letter 有的則不用, 不過最好還是有這個文件比較好

如果有人有其他拿到MSPE 或 DEAN LETTER 的方法可以提供一下...
