MATCH流程-Scramble

Scramble是沒有match上IMG的最後一絲希望, 有Unfilled的 program要再很短暫的時間找到想要的人才, applicant也要再很短的時間決定要報哪些programs

以2011Match為例, 在3/14號12:00 noon EST會公佈你有沒有match上, 但是不會說match上哪個program, 到3/15號Scramble day 11:30am EST , NRMP會釋出unfilled program的名單, 這個時候applicant可以開始用ERAS寄履歷給那些Program, 最多可以寄30個program(30個新的, 15個舊的?), 而且不用花一毛錢


1.Scramble上機會多大
非美國公民的IMG上的機會只有2%, 而且這不是公平競爭, 有些IMG已經有內部的connection了, 而且program通常會找USMLE高分+ 不需要Visa+ ECFMG certified的人, 所以沒有上是正常的, 如果Scramble上請順便買大樂透, 因為那天運氣一定相當好
雖然說機會很小, 但是Scramble不用花一毛錢, 為什麼不姑且一試呢?

2.Scramble要具備哪些必要條件?

• 要Register到NRMP網站, 要在ROL截止日之前(二月底)完成, unfilled program list會公佈在這網站上
• 要Register到MyERAS, 並至少有apply一個program, 並寫好applications/personal statement以利當天寄送
• 最好要ECFMG Certified,或是至少要有前3關的成績, 只有一關或兩關, 即使成績很高機會也是很渺茫, 因為接下來可能要報各州的Lisensure, 一定要ECFMG Certified才能發temporary physician license, Program不會把機會讓給不確定會不會拿到ECFMG Certificate 的人
• 準備必要文件: Personal Statement, CV, LOR, Med School Transcript, ECFMG certificate,USMLE成績 等, 準備fax 給program, 但是如果已經把文件寄到ECFMG但是忘記備分, 趕快用RODs把文件拿回來

3.什麼樣的Program會有最多的Unfilled Position?

一般科Unfilled機會很小, 但是preliminary surgery 會有最多Unfilled position. 

美國外科不是很熱門嗎? 怎麼會有Unfilled? 原來preliminary surgery只有一年pgy1的位子, 過了一年就必須走人, 除非表現很好否則擠不進正統的categorical surgery, 想轉到其他科那一年外科pgy1的經驗也不是很好用, 所以過了一年之後會碰到尷尬的情況--到底要去哪裡? 這就是為什麼Preliminary surgery不熱門的原因, 如果要報Preliminary surgery要事先想好以後出路, 否則就報FP,IM,psy or ped

4.前幾年哪些program 有unfilled position

這個在這個NRMP檔案上可以看到, 有打星號的就是Unfilled program, 看一下哪些program常常Unfilled, 這裡有 2010 match的 unfilled preliminary surgery list, 或是免費申請登入MD Scrambler裡面有詳盡的unfilled program資料

5.可不可以"偷跑"提前跟可能會unfilled 的program聯絡?

NRMP有規定: Unmatched applicants and programs with unfilled positions shall not contact each other about unfilled positions prior to 12:00 noon eastern time on Tuesday of Match Week

, 但是一些很普通沒有提到Unfilled position的 "Letter of interests" 寄到PC的信箱會不會有影響力/傷害, 就見仁見智了

5.Scramble什麼時候結束

雖然正式的scramble時間是2 天,但是在短短3個小時內, 大部分的program就會決定他們想要的人選了

6.Scramble day怎樣增加自己的機率?

• Personal Statement要依可能的專科再擬出多份出來, 尤其是外科
• 如果人剛好在美國會更好, 因為如果Program喜歡你的applications會打電話來phone interview, 如果表現的好, 工作就是你的了
• 積極主動, 送出30 個ERAS applications 之後, 可以開始把制式email 傳出去給想要的program, 數量不限於剛剛報的30個program, email可以事先寫好, 這就是為什麼需要事先知道哪些program最容易unfilled 的原因, 因為scramble當天, 速度就是一切, 沒有時間慢慢寫email
• 如果可以的話, 可以找多位朋友分工合作, 速度會快很多很多
• 不需要使用任何的Scramble service, 因為他們能做的事你也能做

7.要怎樣分工合作?

• 需要3個人(當然越多越好)+最好2台以上電腦(high speed internet)+2個以上的電話, 1台Fax machine或Online Fax service(如JFAX)
• 首先, 上NRMP網站下載unfilled program list, 會有program的聯絡方式(最好事先就調查清楚), 有時候因為連到NRMP網站的人過多, 網站會癱瘓, 所以最好有多位朋友同時log on (如果秀出"Site is unavailable",請一直重複按 Refresh" )
• 你負責在ERAS 選擇出30個program, 並把資料傳給他們
• 其中一個人把你的資料Fax出去給所有的unfilled program
• 其中一個人負責把Email傳出去
• 其他人或是工作結束的人開始打電話, 通常電話不會通, 但是萬一通了, 再接手給你

New This Year for the Scramble Season –

Applicants may still apply or re-apply to a total of 45 programs during scramble from 12:00 PM ET Mar 15 – 12:00 PM ET Mar 17. However, a maximum allotted number of submissions are allowed each day. These are absolute maximums – applicants will not be able to apply to more than that during the Scramble period, even if you are willing to pay a fee to do so.

Scramble, Day 1 – Tuesday, Mar 15 12:00 PM - Wednesday, Mar 16 11:59 PM - Allows you to apply or re-apply to a total of 30 programs
Scramble, Day 2 – Wednesday, Mar 16 12:00 AM - Thursday, Mar 17 11:59 PM - Allows you to apply or re-apply to a total of 10 programs
Scramble, Day 3 – Thursday, Mar 17 12:00 AM - Thursday, Mar 17 12:00 PM - Allows you to apply or re-apply to a total of 5 programs嗯, 我寫到這邊, 比起很多之前的付出, Scramble感覺沒有想像中的複雜, 當然我沒有scramble的經驗, 也希望你不會有需要scramble的一天
